CLASS DESCRIPTIONS
According To You:That scrap of fabric from your favorite dress, the photo of your mom at her prom, the bit of lace from your Great Aunt Lucy…fabric has the ability to recall a memory, a feeling or a thought. In this class, you will create a standing accordion book that is unique to you as we learn fabric collage composition, explore image transfer techniques and delight in using embellishments to tell your story.
Bodacious Beading: From subtle to outrageous, beading is a fabulous way to add some bling to your work. You will learn the basic techniques that are the foundation of all beading on fabric. These stitches all start simply and can be added onto to create intricate bead effects. We will cover seed stitching, moss stitch, couching, backstitch, fringe, picot, and peyote stitches as well as using bugle beads. We will make a fun little reference book so you will always have all of your bead techniques close at hand. Disclaimer: The teacher will not be held responsible for any bead addictions that occur as a result of this class. (photo above)
Delectable Cloth: Discover the delights of creating your own unique fabrics with a combination of gelatin plate mono-printing and screen printing. Gelatin plate printing is a fun and easy method of mono-printing that results in surprises and delights. Create unique textures and patterns using found objects (aka-junk), stamps, stencils and resists or masks. Screen printing uses a fine mesh screen to create graphic images on fabric or paper. We will explore traditional screen printing as well as thermofax screen printing techniques. We use some of the same found objects, stencils and resists to create a one of a kind delectable cloth or to layer on top of our gelatin printed fabric. Class supply fee covers paints and tools, gelatin plates and screens. The only thing you need to bring is 2-4 yards of PFD fabric (available at www.artisticartifacts.com) or washed and ironed muslin.

Image Transfer, Journey to India: Create a beautiful book full of the colors and imagery from India as we explore various methods for transferring photos and other images on to fabric, metal and paper. (no supply list-just bring a willingness to experiment)

Introduction to Visual Journaling:Keeping a sketchbook can seem so intimidating but it is a vital tool for the emerging artist. In this class we will begin with the familiar and create a fabric collage cover for our journals, claiming them as our own. We will explore some written as well as visual journaling methods to get you started on this unique form of self expression.
Metal Explorations: We will be exploring the fun world of hard surface design with metal mesh and thin sheet metal. Metal can give a natural and organic feel to your work or exhibit a sophisticated modern aura. Working primarily with metal mesh and foil, we will learn some easy methods to patina metal and discuss how to work with images or personal symbols. Simple attachment techniques will help us layer our metal pieces with fabric and paper to create unique pieces to adorn a journal, use in your fiber work or frame. (no supply list-just bring your sense of adventure) Note: we do use weak acids in this class so if you are very sensitive to chemicals this class may not be appropriate for you. If the weather is good we will be working outside.
